The Literacy Portal is a free resource for kindergarten through sixth grade teachers and the families of the children they teach.
Seven evidence-based literacy practices — phonological and phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, writing, and assessment — each grounded in What Works Clearinghouse practice guides from the Institute of Education Sciences, with page citations and links to the source PDFs.
This portal replaces the original ESFC Literacy Portal. The practice documents are new, significantly expanded versions; the video library, printables, and further-study resources carry over from the original, reorganised by practice.
Developed by Educational Solutions for Children under the Kindergarten to Fifth Grade Comprehensive Literacy State Development grant, with Capital City Public Charter School as lead grantee and Bridges Public Charter School as partner. Educational Solutions for Children works to end achievement gaps for at-risk children.
Children from birth through five are served by the Emergent Literacy Portal, which covers phonological awareness, alphabet knowledge, oral language, and print awareness for preschool and pre-K.
